03 / The person behind the work

An engineer's curiosity.
A researcher's mindset.

I'm Mario Poneder, an independent security researcher based in Austria. Through Decentra Vision, I work with builders and fellow researchers to make decentralized systems safer.

What draws me to security research is understanding how a system really works. I enjoy getting deep into a codebase, questioning its assumptions, and following interactions until the edge cases become clear.

I value the exchange with other researchers as much as the technical work: comparing approaches, challenging conclusions, and learning from each new codebase. That curiosity is what keeps the work interesting.

The path here

  1. Electronics, automation & GPUs

    After a school focused on electronics and computer engineering, I began developing industrial automation software and working with GPU-accelerated parallel computing using OpenCL.

  2. Engineering physics & dark matter

    While earning my master's degree in engineering physics, I ran particle physics simulations for dark matter research with the CRESST experiment.

  3. Embedded software leadership

    After university, I became lead embedded software engineer at a company building electrical drives for intralogistics. Alongside that work, I kept exploring blockchain technology.

  4. Independent security research · since 2022

    I founded Decentra Vision at the beginning of 2022 and moved into independent reviews, team engagements, and competitive audits. I've judged on Code4rena since 2023 and have also judged on Cantina.
